Alandmark of the Courchevel 1850 resort, Le Carlina has welcomed some of the finest personalities in its heyday, including French President Valéry Giscard D’Estaing.
The project was exciting, not only because of the management of this almost unique apartment of over 120 m2 in the heart of Courchevel 1850, but also because of the history of this legendary building, and of the apartment itself.
A high-end hotel and a number of apartments coexist in the building, reinforcing the need to involve all the players on the site.
The apartment had not undergone any renovation since its creation, and many historical markers were still present.
This family apartment has remained in the same family, carrying with it many memories of snow vacations from several generations.
In 2022, during the first meetings with the owners, it became clear that the apartment’s comfort was no longer up to date, but the stated aim was to preserve the nature of the premises so as not to distort more than half a century of joyful events. The aim was to ensure continuity while modernizing the premises and appealing to three generations of the family. A major challenge!
The apartment was stripped bare, and everything was taken down to completely rethink the living spaces from the night spaces and ensuring that there were enough bathrooms and sanitary facilities for all the bedrooms. Four rooms have been defined, one of which is a master suite with bathroom and dressing room, and the other a family dormitory for children. Each room has its own built-in wardrobe and storage cupboard, with automatic lighting when the doors are opened.
Each room has its own identity defined by the textures chosen for the headboards and curtains, all in thick, cozy natural wool, creating a cosy, relaxing dimension after a day on the slopes.
The dormitory room, the smallest, benefited from the installation of a panoramic wallpaper with mountains, reinforcing the link with the outside landscape and the choice of natural green wool color.
The species chosen for the renovation were selected from among the noblest materials, in particular thermo-brushed larch for all custom joinery fittings, designed by the architect to perfectly match the owners’ lifestyle and needs. The floor has been treated with solid oak parquet over the entire surface of the apartment.
Beforehand, the apartment’s partitions, floor and ceiling were insulated against noise and heat. The latter were made of bricks, which did not make the deconstruction stage any easier.
In the kitchen, the bespoke units feature a front in thermo-brushed larch, the worktop in two sections of caviar-colored enamelled lava, and a wide credenza in cream-colored natural stone, giving the whole a very soft, delicate look despite the rough nature of the materials selected.
All the seats take up the DNA of the mountains, with soft, comfortable textures in green to evoke the surrounding nature, but also seats in shaved sheepskin fur.
The end result lives up to all expectations for this project, which is scheduled to be completed between spring 2023 and the resort’s opening in December 2023. The owners were able to enjoy the Christmas vacations with their families, bringing all generations together to take advantage of this new place and create new, sweet family memories!
